Ep. 9: Go Atlantis!
May 26, 2010, 12:25 am View CommentsThis is the full audio account of my road trip to Florida for the launch of STS-132! Hear authentic sounds of a motel on the outskirts of Savannah, Georgia! Hear the equally authentic but potentially more thrilling sounds of a motel in Titusville, Florida! Hear actual interviews with my actual father and actual sister! And, most thrillingly of all, hear the extremely genuine sound of an authentic Space Shuttle launch from its pad in Florida into orbit.
I’m proud of this one.
Enjoy!

Go Atlantis!

Space Shuttles on Our Door
May 13, 2010, 10:09 pm View CommentsWe made it to our motel in Titusville, Florida, and we’re staying in the “Atlantis” section. On the door, our room number is flanked by two Space Shuttles. In fact, there are little details like this all over the motel, and it’s turned me into a super-excited version of my ten-year-old self.
A few minutes ago, I re-watched the episode of When We Left Earth about the Space Shuttle program, and it’s finally hitting me: I’m going to see my first launch tomorrow!
Pardon me while I go bounce off the walls for a while.

Nice bed, Georgia Travelodge
May 13, 2010, 2:03 am View CommentsMy dad, sister, and I are about halfway to Florida for Friday’s Space Shuttle launch. Tonight, we’re staying at a motel outside of Savannah, Georgia. Check out the sweet comforter and matching painted brick.
That blanket is so getting stripped off the bed in about five minutes and stored safely in a closet.

Introducing "Daily Sunrise"
May 11, 2010, 1:44 pm View CommentsI enjoy taking photographs of the sunrise and posting them on my site. I’ve heard from some amazing people who enjoy seeing them. During my last couple weeks of grad school, the sunrises are the only thing I’ve had time to post.
Well, the semester is over, I’ve got lots of cool stuff planned for this blog, and I’ve decided to move the sunrises to their very own site. Ladies and gentlemen, it is my great pleasure to announce Daily Sunrise. I’ve added a colorful link to the sidebar, too.
From now on, that’s where all new sunrise photos will live. It should make flipping through them easier, too.
Enjoy!

Apple's email about my iPad reservation
May 6, 2010, 2:40 pm View CommentsHere’s the email I got from Apple on Monday when I reserved my iPad at the Apple Store in Towson.
This email is friendly, playful, and torturous! Every time I hear the alert sound for a new email, I click over to Gmail or fire up the Mail app on my iPhone, filled with gleeful, irrational hope that Apple is dropping a line to let me know my iPad is waiting for me at the Towson Mall.
Today is the last day it can arrive before I head to MaxFunCon tomorrow. I was really hoping to have my iPad on the plane with me, but it doesn’t seem likely to arrive today. By all accounts online, every single iPad in the universe has been sold and there aren’t any more right now.
I worry that my iPad will arrive while I’m out of town. “When you get your notification email,” the helpful Apple Store employee told me after I filled out the web reservation form, “you have 24 hours to come get it before it’s released to the next customer.” It would be just my luck to be out of town for that 24-hour window.
I know I shouldn’t have my hopes up about my reserved iPad arriving in next few hours, but I do anyway. “Your iPad will be here before you know it,” Apple said, almost as if they know what an impatient child I can be.
